Goal
Land Speed Racing is one of the earliest and purest forms of motor sport. It has a long and very illustrious history, with many famous and decorated people recognised for their association and endeavors to go faster than any man has before.
Speed attempts are performed over the 14.4KM track at Lake Gairdner. Of the distance 4.8KM is provided for the vehicle to get up to speed, after that three Timing lights are placed at distance of 1.6KM's apart. Recorded speeds are worked out based on the time it takes to cover any one of the three times stretches. A further 4.8KM's is provided for the vehicle to slow down. All up it equals to roughly 10KM's of flat out acceleration.
The event in March 2010 spans a full week and James, along with his team will travel over to South Australia for the full event. The record James is attempting to beat was set in 2006 and stands at 377.184km/h, James's bike has been built to specifications capable of a speed goal of 407km/h, the magic 250mph.
Update
James and Nathan have returned from Lake Gardiner with mixed results, but loads of great experiences! The bike performed well, getting up to speeds of around 300kph and both James and Nathan qualified for their 200mph licences, but due to pre-departure mishaps and late mechanical problems the guys decided to not risk bringing the bike home in pieces. James, Nathan and their team have done themselves proud! Read the full commentary and see the pictures on the PSB website - perthstreetbikes.com
